A young queer woman losing her grip on reality returns home with a plan to face her past by building a boat.
About the project:
As a freelance scriptwriter working client's scripts or adapting books over the years since graduating from university, Remy was keen to see an original story of her own on the big screen. To make this happen, she felt that making her directorial debut would be fitting, especially after honing the Fruitcake! script over the course of a couple of years with a clear idea in her head of how she wanted the film to look. And so, in 2023 she applied for funding through Screen Cornwall and Falmouth University's alumni shorts competition, winning £5000 to go into production. As well as this, Remy and her team managed to Crowdfund an additional £4000.
Sourcing mostly local crew and fellow alumni from Falmouth University, the film went into production on September 2023 with post production concluding in August 2024. The atmosphere on set was incredibly fun, calm, organised and joyful.
The film is currently in the process of being submitted to film festivals around the world.
Cinematography by Kyle Richardson. Grade by Katherine Jamieson. Produced by Nicole Bailey, Runa Sanford, Flicker Image Films ltd and Screen Cornwall. Poster design by Sarah Crowley.
